This is your opportunity to tell the board members of OCT which shows you want to see.
Please be as specific as possible, and back up your choices!!

For love of all things holy, please don't just say we should do a musical.
I know that musicals are wonderful, but they are really expensive to produce, we're talking at least 10x the price. We also have trouble getting enough people to fill 16 roles, let alone the 30+ of most musicals.
And on top of that, we did a musical last season that was wonderful, and all those people who wanted to see a musical soo bad, didn't show up, so we just took a huge hit trying to give people what they said they wanted.

I think we should do more shows with roles for all ages, what show that would be, I don't know.
Let's do more shows based on television series...
I know, I wanna do the 3 muskateers!!

"Squirrel Lake" or "The Big Five-Oh" are both funny. The playwright's from Grinnell, too.

I was reading the posts on this page and one user decided to say that the OCT should not do a musical. Summer Musicals used to be the norm in Oskaloosa. One problem with theater people is that we do what we like and not what the public likes. I recently went to a play called Forever Plaid and loved it. It was not in this state but it was a crowd pleaser. From the looks of the auditorium (which was sold out) the public did too. Musicals have a place, and if done properly can be extremely profitable. The problem we had before was seating, climate contol, proper stage. Now we have that with George Daily so we should use it. We might not sell out, but we can start to go back to the days when musicals made more than a play no one has ever heard of.

Everyone at OCT understands that the public likes musicals. Unfortunately, they do not have the money or resources to pull one off at this time. They attempted to get back to them with Charlie Brown which lost them more money than any show in years.
Musicals are very expensive to produce, as well as requiring musical talent that OCT doesn't have at the moment (such as dozens of vocal talents, accompaniment and a musical director). They are trying to rebuild to the point where summer musicals may be a possibility again. But it is a high risk venture that an organization on its last leg cannot afford.
